Heat Warning in effect from Sunday at 11 AM through Tuesday at 11 PM

Hot weather is expected from Sunday morning through Tuesday night. This is an early heat event, and many people are not used to these temperatures yet. That can make it more dangerous.

Please take steps to stay safe and cool.

Stay Safe in the Heat

  • Do outdoor work or exercise early in the morning or later in the evening

  • Take breaks often, especially in a cool or shaded place

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day

  • Limit or avoid alcohol

  • Use air conditioning if you have it

If you do not have air conditioning, try to spend time in a cooler place. You can ask a friend, family member, or neighbor if you can cool down in their home.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If you or someone else has symptoms like confusion, fainting, or very high body temperature, call 911 right away.

Find a Cool Place

You can visit places like libraries, community centers, pools, splash pads, and fountains to cool down.

Find cooling centers and heat safety information:

Be Careful Around Water

Rivers and lakes may look refreshing, but the water is still very cold. Cold water can cause cold water shock, which is dangerous. Use caution if you go into the water.

Who Is Most at Risk

Heat can be dangerous for anyone, but some people are more at risk.

In Multnomah County, most people who died from heat in recent years were older adults living indoors without enough cooling.

People at higher risk include:

  • Men over 50

  • Older adults who live alone

  • People without air conditioning

  • Pregnant people

  • People taking certain medications

  • People who work in hot spaces, indoors or outdoors

  • People doing intense outdoor activity (including children playing sports)

  • People who have been drinking alcohol

Check on friends, neighbors, and family—especially older adults and people without air conditioning—to help keep everyone safe during this heat.
