Health Share of Oregon announces that it was named the winner of the Corporate Champion Award from Bradley Angle at the August 26 GlamHy Awards. The award honors a corporate supporter of Bradley Angle’s work to serve survivors of domestic violence. Health Share received the award for providing support, including an 85 thousand dollar grant at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, to help ensure Bradley Angle had the resources to continue operations during COVID-19 lockdown orders.

“It was an honor to receive this award on behalf of Health Share for our health equity leadership in the community. To receive this award from an organization that I admire truly means a lot to me," said Dr. Phyusin Myint, Chief Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer at Health Share. "I started my career working in crisis management, supporting survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence and I understand how difficult it is to show up every day to do this, and to do it amidst a pandemic is heroic, to say the least. I am excited to learn more about how we can elevate and support the good work of organizations like Bradley Angle in our Health Share collaborative.”

Bradley Angle is a Portland non-profit that provides shelter and resources to survivors of domestic violence. Established in 1975, they were the first shelter for survivors to open up on the west coast. When COVID lockdown orders were announced Bradley Angle needed to quickly adjust shelter policies and procedures to ensure they were operating in a COVID-safe way. They also needed to pivot operations to ensure their staff could work safely and in some cases, remotely.

“When COVID began, the world stopped, but the abuse did not stop. Our services matter so much to survivors of domestic abuse, and we needed funds quickly to provide vital services to our participants,” said Bradley Angle Development Director Marina Bhargava. “Health Share’s grant was generous and came through quickly. It was exactly what we needed," she said. Health Share's support inspired Bradley Angle's staff and board to nominate Health Share for the Corporate Champion award. Health Share and Bradley Angle plan to continue collaborating in the future to help serve all people affected by domestic violence.
